Chile gets its own superhero. No, he isn’t a alien from another planet. No, he isn’t a millionaire playboy. He is a simple bouncer at a nightclub whose parents were killed when he was younger and his little brother ended up in a mental institution. Withdrawing from the world, he spends his time training in various martial arts so he won’t be caught out again.
When Maco (Marko Zaror) stumbles upon a robbery of a news reporter and saves her, the subsequent praise helps him realize his mission in life and seeks to do good for the people.
This movie succeeds on multiple levels. Its not a typical superhero movie, its not a typical martial arts movie. It shows the various drawbacks to being a superhero like changing into costume without being noticed, choosing a costume design that doesn’t invoke laughter and, of course, where does the support structure come from? Its all played out to comic relief, leaving the drama to the actual missions and the story itself.
I had a blast watching this movie. Zaror is phenomenal martial artist and shows off his talents to great effect during the fight sequences, there was no CGI and no wirework present during any of the sequences, adding a different type of authenticity to the film that other superhero films do not have. I want to see more of Marko Zaror and his writing counterpart, Ernesto Diaz Espinoza. I want more fun in my movies.
Highly Recommend.
